'Messiah Superstar'

Eurodance. Crass beats. Weird outfits. On Joyn. In the new mockumentary “Messiah” (AT), the streamer shows the 90s in all their glory. But also what has become of the stars of yesteryear... In the 90s, Thomas Janowski (Florian Lukas), aka Messiah, was a big star. His hit “XTC” stormed the charts. His girlfriend is Sabrina Setlur, his rival Oli P. has left him behind. Life could be so good. But even his second song “Sexy Sex” can't match the success of its predecessor... Today, almost 30 years later, the former star runs his mother Bettina's (Johanna Gastdorf) restaurant in a rather bleak area. However, when he receives the unique offer to be accompanied for a docu-soap, Messiah, with the support of his manager Leon (Jonas Nay), senses a great opportunity for a comeback... Joyn is producing eight episodes of the series from October 2024. Keshet Fiction Germany (Tina Hechinger, Christina Christ, Axel Kühn) is responsible for the German adaptation of the original format of the same name with FilmKolektiv as the Prague service production. The director is Felix Stienz, the head writer is Sebastian Colley.
